Keshet

A Camp Day With More Ways to Engage

Sixth and Seventh Grade campers arrive ready for more independence, deeper friendships, and experiences that feel meaningful—not just fun. Keshet is designed for this in-between moment: still playful, still supportive, but with new opportunities to take ownership, try bigger challenges, and connect in more lasting ways.

Keshet campers move through their day with increasing confidence and comfort. They know the rhythms of camp, understand expectations, and are ready to engage more fully in the experiences offered to them.

Programming is intentionally varied—mixing creativity, physical activity, collaboration, and reflection—so campers can show up differently throughout the day. Staff encourage campers to explore interests, take healthy risks, and navigate social dynamics with guidance and care.

FAQs

Majors: Immersion and Skill-Building

Keshet campers participate in the Majors Program, choosing a weekly specialty that they attend for a double period each day. Majors give campers uninterrupted time to build skills, explore creative processes, and see real growth over the course of the week.

Majors span a wide range of interests across arts, athletics, and hands-on experiences, and change weekly to allow campers to explore something new throughout the summer. The extended format allows campers to stay engaged, push past the basics, and take pride in their progress. Campers can choose from activities such as sculpture, ceramics, drawing and painting, culinary arts, soccer, basketball, bowling, outdoor adventure, fashion design, and more to focus on throughout the week.

Electives & Clubs: More Choices to Explore

During the final programming period of the day, Keshet campers take part in Electives and Clubs, offering more say in how they spend their afternoons.

Electives are specialist-led experiences where campers choose from a small set of hands-on options that differ from the regular rotation. These sessions introduce new skills and creative tools, allowing campers to explore interests in a focused but low-pressure setting.

Clubs are more social by nature, built around shared interests and group connection. Often camper- or counselor-driven, Clubs provide a relaxed, fun way to end the day while still feeling purposeful and organized.

The Club Getaway Overnight: A Keshet Milestone

A highlight of the Keshet summer is the optional overnight trip to Club Getaway, a two-day experience designed specifically for this age group.

The overnight gives campers the opportunity to experience camp in a completely new way—sleeping away from home, sharing meals and activities with friends, and building deeper bonds outside the regular day camp routine. For many campers, this trip is a major milestone, offering a sense of independence while remaining fully supported by trusted Camp Kef staff.

Whether sitting around together at night, tackling group activities, or simply navigating a new environment as a team, the Club Getaway overnight becomes one of the most talked-about and memorable moments of the summer.

Maker Space: Building Ideas Into Reality

Keshet campers continue to spend time in our Maker Space, working with woodshop tools and 3D printing to design and create tangible projects.

At this age, campers are encouraged to think more intentionally about planning, problem-solving, and execution. Maker Space projects emphasize experimentation, patience, and collaboration, giving campers the satisfaction of bringing an idea from concept to completion.

Swimming At Camp

For Keshet campers, swimming remains a highlight of the day. Campers swim twice daily (weather permitting) in our lap pool which is the perfect way to stay cool and active all summer long.

Our lifeguards lead daily instructional swim using the Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum, a six-level program that teaches water safety along with progressively building aquatic skills for every age. No matter what level a camper is, lessons are engaging, fun and challenging. For more advanced swimmers who's skills have progressed beyond the level-based classes is our junior lifeguard program where swimming skills are applied in real-life scenarios.

Campers also enjoy a daily free swim period where counselors join in the fun - splashing, playing games, and connecting with campers in the water.
